Just watched a programme on BBC2 about the aftermath of the recent earthquake and how some Haitians are trying to move on with their lives. It was inspiring to see; a musician seeking to rebuild a school which had been destroyed where many were killed including his wife; a family acquiring a new home – to simply have the protection of a roof over their heads and shelter, and orphaned children getting the chance of a better future, a young man who found new faith as he survives several days under rubble and ruins.
I was however saddened by the sight of a mother giving her child up for adoption because she felt he would have a better life in France. A mother’s pain for her child is no easy thing to watch. I was also saddened by the small orphaned child who waits for a family to take her away from the prospect of a bleak future.
The experiences of those on the programme reminded me that when I’m having a good old moan about how difficult my life is, and the fact that things aren’t happening the way I want them to, just about had I been born somewhere else, under different circumstances, with different life chances life could be so different! So today as I write this message I remember many blessings and pray for all those suffering at this time continued faith and strength.
